Manjere Ranches is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zimasco Holdings (Pvt) Ltd and is situated in Zvishavane District. It is a cattle ranch that has been owned by Zimasco since 1968 and at its height of productivity, comprised of 47 119 hectares and was home to 6 500 head of cattle. Manjere played an active role in the economy through the export of beef as well as in the community through its ‘heifer-donation’ scheme. This scheme saw a number of communal farmers in the Zvishavane and Mberengwa areas benefiting from an annual donation of 200 heifers to grow and improve their cattle herds.
Following the commencement of the Land Redistribution Exercise in 2002, Manjere Ranches offered eight of its thirteen farms to Government. However, subsequent land redistribution thereafter led to the acquisition of more land resulting in Manjere currently remaining with 1 000 hectares. This loss of grazing pasture has seen Manjere progressively reducing the size of its herd to match the grazing land available. The ranch is now home to 350 head of cattle.

Manjere remains committed to contributing positively to Zimbabwe’s agricultural future. The ranch has been and remains the only breeding station in the entire Zvishavane District. Given its decades of experience in the breeding of export quality beef and the heifer-donation scheme it previously ran, we are certain that Manjere can play a significant role in re-building the national herd of Zimbabwe. It is hoped that in the not too distant future, Manjere can implement plans to breed weaner heifers and steers for sale. Primary beneficiaries would be farmers in the Zvishavane and Mberengwa districts as the availability of good breed heifers and steers will assist them to successfully improve the quality and quantity of their herds.
